Abstract Recently the application of nanomaterials in water treatment has attracted significant attention. Graphene/Fe3O4 nanocomposite (G/Fe3O4) was prepared by solvothermal method and characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HR-TEM), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Thermal Gravimetrical Analysis (TGA), Zeta Potential and Raman Spectroscopy. The application of the synthesized adsorbent in wastewater treatment for removal of organic dyes such as Methylene Blue (MB) and Orange G (OG) dyes from aqueous solutions was investigated in adsorption batch experiments. where several parameters such as the adsorbate/adsorbent contact time, initial dyes concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature were studied. The efficiency of color dyes removal were measured using spectrophotometer. The results reveals that, the adsorption behavior follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, where 15 min was quite enough to get equilibrium and the equilibrium data has been fitted well in the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. G/Fe3O4 nanocomposite exhibits excellent removal efficiency and adsorption capacity toward cationic dye MB were ~100% and 150 mg/g respectively, and for anionic dye OG were 45.5% and 57 mg/g, respectively. That shows excellent when compared to other previously reported materials. The adsorption occur through strong π–π* stacking and anion-cation interactions. The saturation magnetization of G/Fe3O4 nanocomposite is 22.0 emu/g, which allows fast magnetic separation of the adsorbent from aqueous solutions. |
