Abstract

Water pump1ng IS one of the most popular appl1cat1ons of
solar energy nowadays. This investigation has been done to study
the possibility of construct and develop an solar water pump using
the discharge water as a cold fluid in a condensation system
Also to study the pertormance of the solar pump under the
effect of atmospheric conditions and engineering factors.
The solar water pump constructed and installed at the
college of agriculture, Ain Shams University near Cairo (1997).
The obtained results can be summarized as the following :-
1.The solar water pump has a higher average discharge
throughaugust month and lower discharge through may month.
The average daily discharge through the monthes from May to
August were:439, 479, 738 and 530 Llday respectively.
The data proved that the solar pump discharge fluctuated
according to the difference of solar radiation.
2.The result indicated that the pump has a lower efficiency if it
compared with the thermodynamic efficiency it was 3.2% and
the theoretical efficiency was 14.23%.
3. The collector area is an important factor which effects on the
solar water pump discharge. All data of the solar water pump
discharge which. showed that increase with increasing the
collector area at the same conditions over day time.
4. All the solar radiation, wind velocity and ambient temperature
have a compound effect on the pump discharge data proved
that, the wind velocity has a negatively effect on the pump
discharge, but all of incident radiation and the ambient
temperature has a positively effect on the pump discharge
5. The ambient temperature has not linear relation with the pump
discharge. The non linearity is due to the fact that the value of
over all losses increases as ambient temperature increases.
