Abstract

In the present study two hundred medically implanted devices samples were collected
for isolation and identification of contaminating microbes colonizing such devices.
All physiological tests were done and confirmed by randomly amplified polymorphic
DNA-PCR. The isolated organisms were Candida albicans followed by Candida
glabrata, Candida parapsilosis, and Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis,
Protues mirabilis, and Pseudomonas sp. which, were incorporated either singly or with
other microbes in biofilm formation. Antibiotic and antifungal tests were done. For
yeast isolates: The drug of choice was fluconazole. For bacterial isolates: The drug of
choice was moxifloxacin (400 μg).
