Abstract

Recent findings suggested that inflammation may play an important role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes. Acute phase reactant such as C-reactive protein (CRP) had been demonstrated to be an independent cardiovascular risk factor, CRP is not only an excellent biomarker of inflammation, but it is also a direct participant in atherognesis.
Therefor, the aim of our study is to assess the inflammatory response after coronary intervention by serial high sensitive C-reactive protein in patients with in-stent restenosis
This study is a case control study, was conducted in Egypt Air Hospital. This study included eighty patients divided into two groups, forty patients for each group. All patients were with coronary artery disease who were treated with successful coronary artery stenting.
Each individual was subjected to:
1- Medical history
2- Full cardiac examination
3- 12 lead surface Electrocardiography (ECG)
4- Coronary angiography + PCI
5- Serial high sensitive CRP measurement.
Results showed a significant rise of the hs CRP in patients with in-stent restenosis compared to patients with patent stents. This finding confirms the potential role of inflammatory response in the development of ISR as evidenced by raised hs-CRP. The study demonstrated the degree of this response is strongly associated with the risk of re-stenosis.
