Abstract investigate the serum leptin levels in two groups; group A, which include 45 cases diagnosed as having MI and group B, which is a control group (45 subjects without evidence of MI). The frequency of males in the MI group was insignificantly higher than the control group (62.2% vs. 46.7%, respectively) (p>0. 05). There was higher frequency of smokers in the study group than the control group but without significant difference (44.4 % vs. 33.3%, respectively) (p=0.28). The mean age of the patients with MI was significantly higher than controls (51.6 ± 8.6 years vs. 46.6±10.8 years, respectively) (p=0.02). There were no statistically significant differences between both groups regarding the presence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN) (p>0.05). The mean BMI and waist circumference (WC) of the patients with MI was no significantly higher than the control (29.8± 3.5 kg/m2 & 107cm2 ±8.8 cm2 in male & 108.5±14.9 cm2 in female vs. 28.2 ±4.3 kg/m2 ,&104.8± 9.6 cm2 in male &1.02.0 ± 11.1 cm2 in female respectively) (p=0.13)(p= 0.17) (p=0.198 ). There were no statistically significant differences between both groups regarding mean (SBP) and (DBP) (p=0.389). The mean HDL-cholesterol of the patients with MI was not. |
