Abstract

The present work was aimed to evaluate the effect of radish, leek, rocket, celery & the mixture of seeds (as 7.5%) on CCl4 injected rats. For this purpose, the studies included about 35 rats about 150/200(g) weight. Rats were fed on normal (basal) diet. The animals were divided to 7 equal group , one was kept as control –ve group, While the other 6 groups were injected s/c by Carbon Teterachloride (CCl4) in olive oil 50% (3ml./kg .B. wt) twice a week for 3 weeks to induce hepatotoxicity. Group (2): control positive (+ve), in which hepatotoxicity which rats were injected by CCl4 were fed on basal diet for 28 days . Group (3): CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats fed on basal diet containing 7.5% radish seed for 28 days. Group (4): CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats fed on basal diet containing 7.5% leek seed for 28 days. Group (5): CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats fed on basal diet containing 7.5% rocket seed for 28 days. Group (6): CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats fed on basal diet containing 7.5% celery seed for 28 days. Group (7): CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats fed on basal diet containing 7.5% combination of all seeds for 28 days. At the end of experimental period (28 days), animal were scarified. Blood samples were collected to determine the following parameters: Antioxidant Enzymes (SOD, CAT, GST), level of serum liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP) and AST/ALT, serum total protein, serum albumin, serum globulin , total bilirubin Total cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoprotein fractions(HDL-c, LDL-c and VLDL - c), atherogenic index (AI), uric acid, urea nitrogen, creatinine. Liver, kidney, heart, lungs and spleen were kept in (10%) formalin solution for histopathological examination . The results could be summarized as follows: 1 -Due to hepatointoxication , rats BWG,FI and FER were decreased . 2-Feeding on basal diet contained radish, leek, rocket, celery and their mixture (as7.5%) raised the BWG, FI and FER. 3-Infliciting with CCl4 raised the internal organ weight while the reverse indicated on feeding with radish seed, leek seed, rocket seed and their mixture (as7.5%). 4-from histopathological results, liver and aorta section of all rats intoxicated with CCl4 then fed on all tested seeds showed an improvement of structure changed by hepatitis as compared to (C+ve) group, especially for rats group fed on the polyherbal formulation composed of all seeds. 4.1. The best treatment to correct the level of liver was observed for group5 (basal diet+ rocket seed). 4.2. The best treatment to correct the level of heart was observed for group7 (basal diet+ mixture of seeds). 4.3. Hepatic rats then fed on diet contained radish seed (group3) showed the better treatment for kidney. 4.4. Maximum improvement of spleen was found for group3 (basal diet +radish seed). 4.5.Feeding on basal diet with 7.5 leek seeds (group4) revealed maximum efficiency as regards lung. Inflicting with CCl4 injection raised the activities of serum GOT, GPT and ALP. When feeding with radish, leek, rocket, celery and the combination of all seeds (as7.5%) reduced these levels. 5- The best treatment to correct the level of GOT (AST) enzyme was observed for (group7) mixture of all seeds. 6-The maximum improvement of serum GPT was found for (group4) leek seeds. 7-Rats fed on diet contained celery seeds indicated the best treatment for correct serum ALP level. 8-Hepatic rats then fed on diet contained leek seeds showed the better treatment for correct serum AST/ALT ratio. 9-Rats fed on group7 (mixture of all seeds) recorded the best treatment for raising serum (TP). 10-CCl4 injected rats then fed on (group7) mixture of all seeds recorded the best treatment for considering serum (Albumin). 11- Numerically the best serum (Globulin) was recorded for group6 (hepatic rats fed on celery seeds) when compared to control (-) group. 12-Maximum improvement of Albumin/Globulin was found for group7 (basal diet +mixture of seeds). 13-Rats fed on group3&6(which were radish seed &celery seed) recorded the best treatment for lowering serum (T .Bili). 14- Numerically the best group (d.Bili) was recorded for group 6 (celery seeds) when compared to control(-) group. 15- CCl4 injected rats then fed on (group3) radish seeds recorded the best treatment for considering serum (Ind.Bil). -There were a significant decrease in SOD,GST and CAT in the serum of rats poisoned by CCl4 in comparison with (C-ve) normal rats , while rats injected with CCl4 then fed on all seeds revealed significant increase in most treatment groups when compared with (C + ve) group . 16-Feeding on basal diet with 7.5% leek seeds (group4) recorded the best treatment for increasing GST. 17-Rats fed on diet containing 7.5% rocket seeds (group5) showed the maximum improvement as regards Catalase enzyme. 18- Feeding on basal diet with 7.5% radish seeds (group3) revealed maximum efficiency as regards SOD enzymes. - CCl4 injected increased TC, TG, LDL-c, Glob., T.Bili., Dir.bili, Indirect. Bili & VLDL-c, but decreased the serum HDL-c, TP, Alb. 19-CCl4 injected rats then fed on (group7) mixture of seeds recorded the best treatment for lowering TC. 20-Numerically the best serum (T.G.) was recorded for group7 (hepatic rats fed on mixture of all seeds) when compared to control (-) group. 21-The best serum (HDL-c) was observed for group 3&7 (hepatic rats fed on radish seed and mixture of all seeds) when compared to control (-) group. 22-rats fed on group 7 (mixture of all seeds) recorded the best treatment for lowering serum (LDL-c). 23-CCl4 injected rats then fed on (group7) mixture of all seeds recorded the best treatment for considering serum (VLDL-c). 24-Maximum improvement of AI was found for group7 (basal diet +mixture of seeds). - Inflicting with CCl4 injection raised the serum creatinine, urea and uric acid when feeding with radish, leek, rocket, celery and the combination of all seeds (as7.5%) correct these levels. 25- Maximum improvement of serum creatinine was found for group7 (basal diet +mixture of seeds). 26- The best treatment to correct the level of serum urea was observed for group3 (basal diet+ radish seed). 27-Hepatic rats then fed on diet contained radish seed (group3) showed the better treatment for correct serum uric acid.
