Abstract Diphenylhydantion is avery important drug used in treatment of epilepsy for long years ago. many pioneers were interested to study its adverse effectes either in the human or in experimental animals. This study was carried on fifteen adult female boscat rabbits, which were classified into two groups. A control group consisted of five rabbits and an experimental group of ten rabbits. The experimental animals were subjected to dai ly admini stration of diphenylhydantoin (in a dose of 35 mg/kg/day) five days before mating and along the whole peiod of gestation. The newborn rabbits were examined to detect any gross malformation and then labarotomised to remove the cerebellum, liver, kidney, spleen, parts of their skeletal muscles and lungs. After that, the mothers were sacrificed and the cerebellum, liver, kidney, ovaries, spleen, skeletal muscles and skin were taken. All the previous organs and tissues were prepared for microscopic examinations. Haematoxylin and eosin stain, Malloryts trichrome stain and Periodic Acid schiffts technique were used. Cerebellar sections were also stained by silver and thionine stains. |
