Abstract The present work aimed to study the relation between oral infection caused by Trichomonas tenax and chronic pulmonary diseases by using dirct microscopic examination and TYI-s-33 medium and evaluate the applicability of them as techniques for detection of Trichomonas tenax in oral and respiratory samples.To fulfill these aims, 100 individuals of both sexes and different ages, selected from outpatient clinics or admitted to Department of Chest of Benha University Hospitals, and 20 patients in group III were attending outpatient dentistry clinics of Benha Teaching Hospital. The patients were categorized into 3 groups: Group I (50 subjects) immunocompromised patients with chest complaints as cough with or without expectoration, dyspnea, chest pain, and wheezes. With history of diabetes or immunosuppressive drugs. 17 sample of sputum, 12 sample of pleural effusion fluid and 21 sample of BAL fluid were taken from patients of this group. Subgingival plaque and calculi samples were obtained from all patient of this group.Group II (50 subjects): immunocomptent patients with chest complaints as cough with or without expectoration, dyspnea, chest pain, and wheezes. 23 sample of sputum, 18 sample of pleural effusion fluid and 9 sample of BAL fluid were taken from patients of this group. Subgingival plaque and calculi samples were obtained from all patient of this group.Group III (20subjects): Apparently healthy individuals and subgingival plaque and calculi samples were obtained from all patient of this group. |
