Abstract Modified Triple Test evaluation is a very useful and convenient technique for the diagnosis of palpable breast lesions.Breast symptoms and signs are common problems in clinical practice and the patient’s anxiety is usually due to the fear of associated malignancy in the palpable breast lesion. Psychological and financial costs of investigating benign breast disease primarily to exclude malignancy are substantial. This prospective study was conducted on 57 females, younger than 35 years, presented with a palpable breast lesion who will be admitted into the Surgical Oncology Unit in Department of Surgery at Tanta University Hospitals, during the period from October 2011 to December 2013. All the 57 cases were evaluated by the three components of Modified triple test; physical examination, color Doppler ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration cytology. It was found that benign masses were 50 and malignant masses were 7, Fibroadenoma represented the majority of benign cases (n: 38, 66.7%). The next most common benign finding was consistent with fibrocystic disease of the breast (n: 7, 12.3%). However, chronic breast abscess and ductectasia were found in 3 and 2 cases respectively, Malignant cases (n: 7, 12.3%) were found to be invasive ductal carcinoma. |
