Abstract Summary Total laparoscopic gastrectomy is safe and effective, and may offer some advantages over open conventional gastrectomy in the treatment of gastric cancer as lower intra-operative blood loss and overall complication rates; fewer wound-related complications; quicker recovery of gastrointestinal motility and a shorter hospital stay, but with a longer operating time. Short term oncological outcomes of total laparoscopic gastrectomy (TLG) are comparable with open gastrectomy. However, there is a need to develop well-designed, adequately powered, prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trials, investigating TLG with adequate long-term follow-up. |
