Abstract

The main aim of the work is focused on the preparation and characterization employing elemental analyses, thermal (TG and DrTG), spectral (IR, UV-Visible, 1H NMR and 13C NMR) and magnetic measurements of new complexes of (Z)-N-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)picolinohydrazide (H2IPH) and (Z)-N-(3-hydroxy-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-ylidine)picolinohydrazide (H2DPH) with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Hg(II) and U(VI)O2 metal ions.
• Detailed thermal analysis for the prepared complexes was performed in the temperature range 30-700 or 800˚C.
• The geometries are suggested for the prepared complexes based on the data evaluated from spectral and magnetic measurements.
• Theoretical infrared intensities of H2IPH and H2DPH were calculated using DFT method. Also the theoretical electronic spectra of the two ligands and some of their complexes as examples were calculated. A comparison of the experimental and theoretical spectra can be very useful in making correct assignments and understanding the basic chemical shift. Also some other theoretical studies using DFT method were performed.
• In order to assess the influence of the structural properties of the ligands and the type of the metal on thermal behavior of the complexes, the order (n) and the heat of activation (Ea) of the various decomposition stages are determined from the TG and DrTG using the Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger methods.
• Discussion the antioxidant activity, erythrocyte hemolysis and the antitumor activity for H2IPH and H2DPH and their metal complexes.
