Abstract
”Folk arts as a source of modernizing/updating designs of thermal transfer paper as a printing medium”
This study is divided into five chapters as follows:
Chapter One: Introduction:
This chapter is divided into two sections. The first section deals with the following: research background, research problem, research assumptions, research aims, research significance, research boundaries, research methodology, and research terminology.
The second section examines the review of literature; this is done through three stages:
1. Studies that deal with printing methods of thermal transmitters.
2. Studies dealing with the role of computer in designing textile prints.
3. Studies that deal with folk arts.
Chapter Two: The Importance of Folk Arts:
The first section of this chapter examines the lantern in Egypt. It includes the importance of lantern, its function, its relation to other kinds of arts, and its different shapes and names. This section also deals with the analysis and description of some principal models (analysis and description of 14 models).
The second section examines folk fans in ”Draw”. It includes the importance of the area of ”Draw”, the production of folk fans, the functions of these fans, materials used in fans, different kinds of fans in the area of ”Draw”, decoration units used in designing the fans, categorization of the most important fans decoration units in ”Draw”,

description and analysis of the most important folk fans in ”Draw” (description and analysis of 10 samples).
The third section sheds light on hand bead craft in ”Elnoba”, its importance, the role of Nobian women in preserving it, the customs and tradition linked to it, it functions (the original and the present), the usage of this craft in personal ornamentation and in rooms decoration, the colors of the beads, the ways the beads are arranged, the assets of this craft, and the description and analysis of 8 samples.
The fourth section deals with the decorations in ”Tally”, Assiut. This section consists of the folk arts in Assiut, a historical background of Tally, the decoration units in Tally, analysis and description of Tally products samples in Assiut (description and analysis of 6 samples).
Chapter three, entitled ”Using Computers in Arts and in Textile Printing,” is divided into two sections. The first section deals with the role of computers in arts and in textile printing. This section includes: computer as an important means in the field of arts, the advantages of using computers in textile printing, the uniqueness and superiority of designers who use computers in textile printing, the elements of textile printing problem, the relation between the designer of textile printing designs, the uses and advantages of Photoshop, the use of filters in textile printing designs.
The second section investigates the use of computers in folk arts effects. It includes: the use of computers in doing effects on folk lantern, on folk fans, on scarves, and on Tally’s decorations.
Chapter four: practical application of printing.
Deals firstly with: printing through thermo transmitting. It includes the following :

A historical background of stains, categorization of stains , different characteristics of stains, colors of thermo transmitters a background of the appearance of synthetic fibers, the usage of poly-Astrost fibers, the ways and methds of thermo transmitting printing.
Second: The experiment. It includes the following:
The aim of the experiment, its process, the theoretical framework of the experiment, and the experiment itself.
Third: the designing ideas inspired from folk art.
Fourth: thermo transmitting printing samples
Chapter five: the result and discussion
It deals with evaluating the artworks, the experiment research methods, the research result and discussion, the statistical analysis, results, recommendations and the references
