Abstract

this thesis is an attempt to investigate the classical problem of human eye detection and tracking. different approaches to the eye detection and tracking problems were evaluated. a new system was proposed and simulated using MATLAB technical computing language. in the proposed eye tracking system, automated eye detection and tracking was achived using the deformable template-matching algorithm which is an effective method that allows variations in the size and the orientation of the base template. the template size and the rotation angle are adjusted to find the search area that contributes to the best match in the input image. however, exhaustive search methods in traditional template matching algorithem are computationally expensive. therefore,in this research the deformable template was implemented using the genetic algorithm (GA) and particale swarm optimization (PSO) to reduce the execution time.
