Abstract
Successful control of Salmonella infections on poultry farms is reliant on good farming and husbandry practices as well as the testing and removal of positive flocks from production. Vaccination may be an additional option to a control program depending on the aim of the control program, type of poultry, stage of production, true prevalence of Salmonella, serotypes targeted, detection methods used and cost-benefit. Vaccination may be a way of increasing the resistance of birds against Salmonella exposure and decreasing the rate of shedding. In our study we prepared different formulae of Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium vaccine in comparison with the imported one measuring the ELISA antibody titer and protection percentage. We found that the highest antibody level and protection% was recorded by OMP combined with Montanide ISA720-crude aqueous palm date extract (local strain) followed by OMP with Montanide ISA720 (local strain) and the Binary inactivated Salmonella combined with Montanide ISA720-crude aqueous palm extract vaccine (local strain) followed by Binary inactivated Salmonella with Montanide ISA720 (local strain) then the formalized Salmonella with Montanide ISA720(local strain) and the bivalent vaccine combined with Montanide ISA720-crude aqueous palm date extract then the OMP without adjuvant then Binary inactivated Salmonella with oil adjuvant vaccine (local strain) then the imported vaccine then the formalized Salmonella with oil adjuvant vaccine(local strain) and lastly the bivalent vaccine with Montanide ISA 720.
