Abstract The present work, aims to preparation and characterization of nanocomposites from some polymeric materials based on layered double hydroxides of different cations ratios and their applications as nano structured materials to be used as packaging materials. This study consists of three parts. The first part includes a general introduction, in which the preparation methods of Polystyrene and poly (methyl methacrylate) are given. Also the properties and application of those polymers were included. Furthermore, the classification of different composites, the definition of the nanocomposites, their types and properties were extensively mentioned. Some application and structures of Nanocomposites, layered double hydroxide and polymer layered double hydroxide nanocomposites were of great value to be mentioned. Moreover, those nanocomposites were characterized by fourier Summary 131 transform infrared (FTIR) Analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetery (DSC). The second part includes the experiments which concerned with the preparation of layered double hydroxides of different Zn/Al ratios (from 2:1, 3:1 to 4:1) and it was extended to include their characterization. Additionally, this part discussed the incorporation of layered double hydroxides into Polystyrene and poly (methyl methacrylate) by in situ polymerization using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) as a surfactant and ammonium persulphate (APS) as an initiator. The third part includes the methods of characterization of the prepared nanocomposites. Evaluation of the prepared nanocomposites as packaging materials was done by investigation of the dynamic mechanical properties of the prepared nanocomposites films. It was done by an Anton Paar MCR301 Rheometer with CTD600 convection oven. Finally, |
