Abstract The present investigation was conducted during two successive seasons of 2011 and 2012 in the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University. The objective of this study was elucidating the impact of three antioxidants namely α – tocopherol (vitamin E), citric acid and a mixture of three amino acids (tryptophan, methionine and cysteine) via three methods of application i.e. soaking the seeds in solutions of the three antioxidants, spraying the foliage and dual method (soaking plus spraying) and their interaction on vegetative growth, yield and active ingredients of roselle, (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) c.v. Sabahia 17 Light line. Randomized complete block design (RCBD) in split plot arrangement was adopted. The three methods of antioxidant application and the ten antioxidant treatments were occupied the main and sub-plots, respectively. It is recommended, from the economical point of view under the experimental and resembling conditions, to treating roselle plants (Hibiscus sabdariffa) c.v. Sabahia 17 light line with a mixture of three amino acids (tryptophan, methionine and cysteine) at 100 ppm via soaking the seeds for 24 hours and spraying the plants three times (45 days after planting and 21 days interval) in order to improve the vegetative growth and augment the yield components (dry sepals and dry seeds), as well as, enhance anthocyanin % and total acidity %. |
