Abstract
Crustal movement is a much discussed theory during the last 30 years. Crustal movements cause fracture zones that transform faults along the upper mokattam plateau.Crustal movements in mokattam city cause retreat.Collapse of the edge of the upper plateau. Cracks in some buildings constructed there and damage of the cornish street.
The previous geological studies of mokattam hill proves that there is large movements in the upper plateau.These movements observable, clear and reaches to tens of meters in the last 30 years.These movements due to the non-tectonic structures of mokattam hill, man-made activitites and presense of drifting surfaces c shale shear strength between limestones layers which forms the mokattam hill.
A local geodetic network of special configurations is designed for monitoring horizontal and vertical crustal movements in the upper mokattam plateau. Also the types, number and scheme of the observations are determined.
Crustal movements in the upper mokattam plateau can be determined by establishing a proposed geodetic network. System of repeated measurements should be considered, adjusted and analyzed to determined horizontal and vertical movements as a magnitude and direction.
