Abstract

Antimicrobials with bactericidal activity remain a hallmark in the control of bacterial infections. Notable among these drugs are aminoglycosides highly effective against most aerobic gram negative bacteria and selective aerobic gram positive organisms. Other classes include cephalosporins with a diverse spectrum of activity including large members of Gram- positive and Gram-negative organisms , The most prevalent side effects of aminoglycosides are nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and neuromuscular blocking effect and for cephalosporins are neurotoxicity, and increased ALT, AST, ALP, BUN and creatinine. The current study was outlined to look into amikacin and cefepime induced adverse effects. Hopefully seeking a possible way out through vitamin C coadministration. 25 adult male albino rats weighing l50-200g were allocated into five groups, 5 rats each as follow: The r group: Rats in this group were left as control. The 2nd group: (amikacin treated group) Rats in this group intraperitonially(LP) received amikacin at a dose of 25mg/kg b.wt once a day.
