Abstract In reliability analysis, the Weibull distribution is widely used to model the lifetime of items of interest. The Wei bull distribution, however, is known to have monotone failure rate. It has been generalized in several ways to produce distributions with bathtub-shaped failure rates. Extensively used among these generalizations are the Exponentiated, Modified, and Extended Weibull distributions. Properties of these distributions and their moments are presented. Maximum Likelihood estimation of the parameters of these distributions under progressively censored samples is considered.
