Abstract Laboratory investigations facilitate the detection of pathophysiological changes and subsequently, diagnosis of functioning adrenal tumors. On the other hand, the radiological revolution of CT, MRI and radioisotope scanning made the localization and well identification of all morphological and topographical variations of the functioning adrenal tumors easier to be detected more than the past . At the recent time, laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become the preferred surgical approach for the treatment of benign functioning and non-functioning adrenal disorders. Several high-quality studies have compared traditional open adrenalectomy with laparoscopic adrenalectomy and have shown consistently that patients who have the laparoscopic approach have less intraoperative blood loss, decrease length of hospital stay, decrease rate of postoperative analgesics, increased rate of return to normal activities of daily living, improved cosmesis, and decreased late morbidity. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is also less expensive. |
