Abstract The process of disaster management is a complex process that differs according to place, time and availability of resources. It is divided into three phases which are pre-disaster phase, disaster response and post-disaster phase, of which the most important: phase which is considered the corner-stone of the whole process is the pre-disaster phase which activities are the basement; upon which the activities of the subsequent phases is built. Pre-disaster activities includes mitigation (Measures taken in advance of a disaster aimed at reducing its impact on society and the environment) and preparedness (Ability to predict, respond to and cope with the effect of a disaster). Disaster response (is the sum total of actions taken by people and institutions in the face of disaster overlapping with disaster preparedness plans already set and rehabilitation programs already started). Post-disaster activities includes rehabilitation (the actions ’taken in the aftermath of a disaster to enable basic services to resume functioning) and reconstruction (It is the permanent . construction or replacement of severely damaged physical . structures, the full restoration of all services and local infrastructure). The anesthetist role in disaster management includes his primary role in intensive care units and operating rooms in addition to a secondary role in helping in the process of decontamination and dynamically triaging the victims of the disaster, the proper choice of technique and equipment to deliver anesthesia and/or resuscitation services for the victims either on-scene or in collecting points or at definitive care points . |
