Abstract

This experiment was carried out in a private date palm orchard situated at Moot village, EI- Dakhla oasis, New valley Governorate during two consecutive seasons of 2009 and 2010 on Sewy date palms. Palms are planted at 5 x 5 meters apart. The texture of the soil is sandy loam. The number of female spathes per each palm was adjusted to ten spathes. The leaf: booch ratio was 8:1. Hand pollination was achieved by inserting ten fresh, semi- dry and dry male strands into the center of female booch. The same source of pollens were used for avoid the residues of metaxenia. Pollination was conducted at the second day of spathe cracking at the day time of afternoon. All bunches were bagged with white paper bags for four weeks for preventing contamination.
All Sewy date palms received a program of horticultural practices that already applied in the orchard except pollination and application of antioxidants.
The present experiment included twelve treatments from two factors (A& B). The first factor (A) consisted from four treatments from antioxidants namely non- application as well as application of citric acid, ascorbic acid and salicylic acid each at 500 ppm. The second factor (B) comprised from three treatments from degree of pollen dryness namely fresh, semi- dry or dry male strands.
Each treatment was replicated three times, one palm per each. Semi- dry and dry male strands were prepared by putting at
