Abstract

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is the most commonly diagnosed neuro-behavioral disorder in children and adolescents, characterized by pervasive inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity that often results in behavioral and academic difficulties.
The DSM-IV definition of ADHD distinguishes 2 dimensions of impairing symptoms, inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. Based on these symptoms dimensions, 3 subtypes are distinguished. The combined type, inattentive type and the hyperactive-impulsive type.

-morbid with a variety of psychiatric disorders in school-age children for example, oppositional defiant, conduct disorder, anxiety disorders, mood disorders and learning disability.
The aims of this study is to determine the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in primary school children in Shebin El- Kom and Sers EL Lyan as reprehensive to Minoufia Governorate.
The research was conducted between October 2011-April 2012 . 770 male and female students, age from (6-12year) were chosen to be assessed and studied by our tools. All children were subjected to short history and( Kamel sesalem questionnaire) based on DSMIV criteria which filled by teatchers of children in the school .
The result of the study revealed that prevalence of ADHD symptoms among school children in menofyia governorate was 19.9% and was higher in male ( 22%) in males to(17.5%) in females with a ratio 1.2:1.
The prevalence was (34.8%) in rural area compared to (65.2%)in urban areas. Also our study revealed that prevalevce of ADHD increase with age .
As regard clinical type of ADHD the result of this study revealed that (52%) of ADHD children presented with predominantly inattentive type, compared to (39%) presented with combined type and( 9%) presented with hyperactive-impulsive type .
Also our result showed that 45(29%) of ADHD children(155) in our reaserch had symptoms of oppostional disorder as acomorbid disorder with significantly increased prevalence rate 35(42%) in male than 10(13.8%) among female and , poor social skills 12(7%)of ADHD children with significantly increased prevalence in males 9(10.8%) than females 3(4%),With significant prevalence of these disorder in young age.
