Abstract

Epoxy is widely used as a flooring material in detention centers, hospitals, factories and washrooms. Thus because it has many advantages such as low manufacturing cost, low shrinkage, great chemical corrosion resistance, low creep, high stiffness and good mechanical properties. In the present work, the main objective is to reduce the electrostatic charge generated on epoxy during walking against floor coating with epoxy on one side, and enhance friction coefficient on the other side to provide appropriate level of resistance to avoid excessive movement. The test specimens of epoxy were prepared in the form of rectangular 45 × 35 mm² and 10.0 mm thickness and adding five meshes of copper wires of 40 × 30 mm² of different diameter, number of wires and location. Ultra surface DC voltmeter was used to measure the electrostatic charge. A test rig was designed and manufactured to perform friction measurements under applied different loads. These measurements were carried out under dry, water wet and water/detergent dilution conditions, once for contact to 10 second followed by separation. The second test was sliding for 100 and 200 mm distance against rubber sheet.
