Abstract Due to the limited water depth of River Nile, the depth of Nile floating hotels is very small. Consequently, the superstructure of such hotels is very high to gain maximum capacity and profit Also, mo.st Nile floating hotels have a large sunshade area on sundeck. So. stability of Nile floating hotels is very sensitive to wind force. therefore., a way must be found to overcome the problems which affect stability of Nile floating hotels. The purpose of the present thesis is to find the criteria which control the choice of the following items;* a. The critical metacentric height b. sunshade area c. The above water lateral projected area d. Height of the lower edge of the under deck windows measured from the water level. In the present study, a study of the River Nile and its characteristics 3 made to define:: the constrainl3 on the dimensions of Nile floating hotels. Also, River Nile weather conditions mi Investigated to attain a suitable wind speed for the calculation of heeling moment due to wind. Few basic theoretical principles and experimental facts are reviewed that lay a foundation for the study of wind engineering. Factors causing heeling moments or influencing the position of the ship’s center of gravity, thus affecting the righting moment curve, are discussed to attain a better stability analysis for Nile floating hotel. Finally, some proposals for improvement of stability of Nile floating hotels ate presented. Two specially designed computer programs are presented, one of them calculates the maximum sunshade area and the other calculates the maximum lateral projected a:nila of the above water hull of Nile floating hotels. |
