Abstract

The behavior of piled raft with 3D-superstructure supported by non-identical piles on Port-Said subsoil was examined by the new version of computer program ASTNII, which is edited by the author. The mathematical model of the program based on the finite element method for the raft and superstructure. Framework technique was used to simulate slabs and rafts, while composed coefficient and the equivalent stiffness techniques are used to express the soil stiffness. Subsoil was considered as three-dimensional continuum medium with different sub layers. Program ASTNII can be used for the analysis of 3D-structures supported by piled rafts subjected to horizontal and vertical loadings. Responding Spectrum method is used to taking in the account the earthquake forces into the proposed model. The effect of superstructure, non-homogeneity and nonlinearity of the soil is considered in order to add more reality to the model. Comparisons with existing published experimental results show that although the present method is based on elasticity theory, it can well predict the behavior of pile groups and piled rafts supporting 3D-superstructure under working loads. Two parametric studies of 3D-space structures with piled raft on Port-Said soil medium exposed to vertical loads and seismic loads are carried out by ASTNII. Discussion for the numerical results is performed and conclusions are drawn.
