Abstract

The undertaken research was carried out during two successive seasons 2000 and 2001 to study the elTect of ethrel concentrations and time intervals on Sultani JIg fruits
This investigation aillled to study the effect of spraying Ethrel at different concentrations and time intervals on inhancing fruit ripening, yield and fruit quality) the experiment included fifteen treatments, each was replicated three tilne and every replicate include one fig tree. A conlpletely randolnized block Design was used in this experilnent
Forty five trees were selected to be as unifonn as possible in both vigour and yield during the preceding years of this study, trees were fineen years old, 3.5x 3.5 111eters apart and grown in silty-loatH soil, soil water depth is not less than two nlcters . Trees were grown in EI-Sheekh lVloubark, Abou-Kurkas district, EI-Minia governorate.
The two factors including in this experiment were as follows:
I-The first factor” A” incl uding concentrations of cthrcl at 0.0 , 300 , 400 , 500 and 600 ppl11.
.esults of the present study can be sUlnlnarizcd as follo’vs:-
I-The ’rotal yield:
Increasing ethrel concentration resulted in increasing the total yield of Sultani fig fruits per tree significantly as cotllpared with the control in the two experinlental seasons. On the other hand, ethrel at 0.0 ppnl gave the tninitllutll results in cotllparing with that of the other concentrations (with one exception in both seasons between ara3)’ But time intervals were assured significantly at any period of titne, while spraying ethrel every five days gave the nlaximunl yield per tree in both the experilnental seasons.
2-The Percentage of ripened fruits:-
The highest percentage of ripened fruits was obtained by spraying ethrel at 600 ppnl every five days in both the experitllental seasons. This inCretllent was assured significantly 111 both seasons. Moreover, titne intervals were assured significantly at any period of titne. Moreover, spraying ethrel every five days gave the tnaxinlunl percentage of ripened fruits in both the experimental seasons.
3- The ITruit weight:
Fruit weight was increased by increasing ethrel
concentrations in the two experitl1ental seasons, the lowest 84
7-No nlajor differences were existed between the results of the two experimcntal seasons.
Conclusion
Under the condition of this experilnent ,it is recoll11nend to spray fig fruits at the second stage of nlaturity with ethrel at 600 ppm every five days (titne intervals) to accelerate ripening of fruits and to increase the yield per tree with fairly good quality.
