It was found that this termite is the only
Fdes attacking building and human dwellings. kiLtkme. cjttoturn Desneux. was found in two localities infesting
Citrus, Pious, Eucalyptus and Casuarina trees at Asswari
FLma garden) and infesting Hibiscus living plants of 4Ieharraka, Nassr county.
P. !qbostorna having fixed nest, and is crypto—biotic in ture and never seen above the ground except for swarming. ileries through winch workers move are always found on oundation timbers, wood work, trees, walls, ceilings, ndow frames and on ground surface. The foraging replace the jnsumed wood foragments with soil particles combined with hc saliva and digested materials. They leave a narrow space tween the infested surface and the inner surface of the dded matrex with a width just enough to allow the foragers move. Through this behaviour in highly infested areas,
anfested wood seemed to be a mud block in a wood sheath.
The compuLaLion of 11,277 questionnaires indicate that 28% of the examined units were damaged by termites. The total annual damage in building under investigation is estimated as 850372 Egyptian pounds.
The most damaged area was Nassr county followed by Kom Ombo, Edfou and Ezab—Asswan counties. The annual cost of damages in term of pounds at these localities were (374,832), (319,652), (96,668) and (59,220) respectively. from the calculations it was found that the averae annual damage in one unit was estimated to be 265 L.E. subsequently the total damage in the four examined counties was 917,886 L.E.
