Abstract Lipid peroxidation products can be detected in included cirrhotic rats’ models. Detection and the hope of prevention of lipid peroxidation could be the major interest in combating evolution toward fibrosis and cirrhosis in human chronic liver disease. The decrease in the antioxidant defense may contribute to the extent of liver oxidative damage. So administration of antioxidants in patients with chronic liver diseases may be useful complement to the specific therapy. - Hyperammonmeia correlates with the progress of cirrhosis. Therefore it could be useful prognostic marker in cirrhotic patients. - Exogenously administered -KG may cause biochemical alterations. By 1) detoxifying excess ammonia, 2) participating in non- enzymatic oxidative decarboxylation during hydrogen peroxide oxidative decomposition, and 3) enhancing the proper metabolism of fats. So administration of -KG could protect rats with induced liver cirrhosis from acute ammonia intoxication. |
