Abstract Patients’ nonadherence is an important issue worldwide which affects patients in all areas of health care. Although failure to adhere to medication is extremely costly both in economic terms and health status of individuals, a substantial number of psychotic patients seen in community settings fail to be drug adherent. Without medication adherence, therapeutic goals cannot be achieved resulting in poorer patient outcome. This study aims to identify psychotic patients’ adherence to their prescribed psychotropic medication. The study setting was in the psychiatric out patient clinics of El-Mabarah health Insurance Hospital and EI-Nasr General Governmental Hospital in Port Said City, the total subjects of the study are l 00 psychotic patients. The results revealed that 49.0% of the patients were adherent to their psychotropic drugs and it was closely related to patients’ attitude toward these drugs and satisfaction with psychiatric interview and patients’ improvement. |
