Abstract

Avian influenza virus (AIV) is highly contagious disease, able to spread in susceptible population in a short period of time; therefore, the prompt identification of infected flock is crucial for control and eradication purposes.
The present study was under taken to isolate and identify AIV from domesticated (chickens and ducks) and wild birds. A total of 240samples were collected from chickens and ducks and 412 samples from wild birds. Embryonated SPF eggs were used for virus isolation followed by virus identification by HI, AGPT and RRT-PCR.
There was great variation between the tested samples that collected from chickens in different localities in Damietta province. The highest rate of AIV isolation was from 30(15tracheal and 15 cloacal swabs) out of 30 samples with a percentage of 100% from Farskor while the lowest results of AIV isolation was from 10 (5tracheal and5 cloacal swabs) out of 30 samples with a percentage of 33%, and 10(5tracheal and 5 cloacal swabs) out of 30 samples with percentage of 33% from El-Zarka and Kafr Saad respectively. but AIV was not isolated from Damietta .The highest rate of AIV isolation was isolated from ducks, from 10(5tracheal and 5 cloacal swabs) out of 30 samples with percentage of 33% from Kafr Saad, and isolated from 10 (5 tracheal and 5 cloacal swabs ) out of 30 samples with a percentage of 33% from Damietta ,While the lowest result shown in AIV isolated from 4(2tracheal and2 cloacal swabs) out of 30 samples with percentage of 13%, and 5(2tracheal and 3 cloacal swabs) out of 30samples with percentage of 17% from Farskor.
