Abstract We recommend conservative therapy for patients with non complicated lower ureteral stones with a stone size less than 5 mm, as tamsulosin seems to have some beneficial effect on this regimen. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy should probably be used before conservative treatment as first-line therapy for patients with larger stones to induce more easily small passable fragments; and adjunctive medication with tamsulosin could increase the stone-free state with a very low incidence of side effects with careful follow-up in an outpatient setting. |
