Abstract
In the present study, the oestrogen like effect of liquorice, fenugreek
and damsissa ethanol extracts was performed in immature female mice
by using uterine weight test. The effects of the plant extracts on the
ovarian activity (ovarian weight, in vitro maturation and fertilization
rates of the collected oocytes, serum level of oestrogen and the
histopathological examination) were examined in immature female
rabbits. Phytochemical screening of plant extracts revealed the presence
of flavonoids and other compounds. The results showed that plant
extracts have oestrogen-like activity. Plant extracts significantly
increased both ovarian and uterine weights in immature rabbits, and
increased the total number of recovered oocytes /ovary, but affect
adversely on the quality of oocytes and decreased both maturation and
fertilization rates in vitro.
