Abstract
The aim of the study was the effect of stoma care on quality of life of patients after radical cystectomy. Materials and method:A convenience sample of 50 adult patients for radical cystectomy and urinary diversion, divided alternatively into two equal group 25 patient in each group (study group and control group), the study carried out in urology department at Menofia in university and Shebin El-Kom teaching hospitals. Tools of the study : four tools were used for data collection,tool I,knowledge Assessment sheet,interviewing questionair sheet, tool II,stoma care sheet, Tool III quality of life scale by Padilla and Grant,(1985) and too IV, inventory functional status by Tulman,Fawcett & McEvoy,(1991).The study group was received intervention about stoma a care while the control group, received routine hospital care. Results, the both groups consisted of 19 males and 6 female, the ages of both groups ranged from 25 to 65 years, the majority of study were married, working, smoking, not exercising,present illness were inflammations.Dysuria and heamturia were common symptoms, the knowledge of study group higher than control group, as regard to complication study group lower than control group. as regard to QOL the psychological status (100.0%)was the most common problems, while the study group had higher QOL than control group, and improve functional status as compared to control group. Conclusion, patients required proper nursing care of stoma improve quality of life of patients. Recommendation Providing stoma care program for patients under radical cystectomy to help them to prevent complications.
