Abstract

This work was aiming to prepare an economic superabsorbent polymeric hydrogel from cellulosic material (baggase and cotton linter) for water sorption and metal ions uptake. The study involved a comparison in behavior between cotton linter and baggase pulps (prepared at two different pulping conditions) towards gel formation. The cotton linter that was used in this study was already bleached. Viscose grade pulp of bagasse was prepared by alkaline soda at two different conditions; 3 hrs (pulp I) and 6 hrs (pulp II) refluxing times.
