Abstract Schistosomiasis remains one of the most serious parasitic diseases and has significant economic and public health consequences. It has been estimated that over two hundred million people in the world are affected (85% of them are in the African continent). Five to six hundred million are at risk, with estimated mortality rate about two hundred thousand per year. In Egypt, approximately 20% of the population are infected. The prevalence rate of schistosomiasis in some villages has been estimated to be 85%. |
