Abstract No perfect therapy exist for POAG, so one most aim at controlling the disease rather than curing it. The goal of the treatment is to preserve good visual function for the patient’s life time. This is accomplished by lowering IOP (until a better treatment comes along) to a level that will stop, or at least slow the progression of optic nerve damage and it’s subsequent vision loss. The treatment should maximize good visual functions and comfort, as well as preserve a reasonable quality of life for the patient by minimizing the risk of vision loss from the treatment itself Surgery remains a good therapeutic option for the patients with disease progression at a rate likely to cause significant functional loss of vision in their life and significant side effect |
