المستخلص This study aimed at investigating Effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy in modifying perceived body image distortions in adolescent’s student’s sample of males and females, and its relation to assertive behavior and self esteem, and the degree of its escalation among the study sample. The sample comprised of (254) of secondary school students males and females, with a mean age (16,7) and standard deviation of (0.8).The therapeutic sample which comprised of (20) subjects, 10 males and 10 females with a mean age of (16.5) and a standard deviation of (0.7) was divided into two groups, therapeutic group of (10) and control group of (10). The following measurements were used: adolescents body image distortions scale (developed by the researcher), the cognitive behavioral intervention program (developed by the researcher), intervention program satisfaction rating form (developed by the researcher), AD form of Abdel-raqib Elbehairy Adolescents and Adults self esteem scale, Abdel-raqib Elbehairy Adolescents Mental Health Questionnaire, Tarif Shawqi Faraj Assertive Skills Scale. The Results of the study showed the effectiveness of the cognitive behavior intervention program in modifying perceived body image distortions among experimental group subjects. There had been significant statistical differences p >0.1 between experimental and control groups mean degrees in the pre and post measurements and in the follow up period, sex weeks later, in the favour of the experimental group. There also existed a negative correlation between body image distortion and assertive behavior and self esteem (0.41-) (0.47-) in turn p >0.1. Sex differences in body image distortions also were found in favour of females. Body image distortion escalation range was (11.2%) among females and (7.8%) among males. Sex differences in the parts of the body that cause the distortions also were found. |
