Abstract The work presented herein has been planned to set conditions for maximum activity of hydrogenases in anew isolate of the heterocystous cyanobacterium Nostoc (Nostoc sp. SAG2306). conditions imposed to modulate metabolism of Nostoc were substantially nutritional; namely by controlling the availability of Mg and / or S. Magnesium sulfate contained in BG11 nutritive medium was completely deprived, diluted in several percentages relative to that of the control or partially deprived. Magnesium sulfate limitation was applied to lower the oxygen partial pressure. Inhibition of photosynthesis or enhancing respiration might create anaerobic conditions needed for hydorgenases activity. |
