Abstract The thesis explores stabilization and decolorizing effect after the addition of various dopants of SeO2, CoO, MnO2 and/or CeO2, La2O3 and Sm2O3 on the production of colorless commercial glasses prepared by the addition of increasing municipal glass cullet. The preparations of the nominal glasses were carried out by the addition of batch compositions of soda lime silica and additional amounts of cullet waste together with variable oxidizing or reducing agents. The following properties of the prepared samples were measured to see how dopants affected the: density, transmission and absorption in UV-visible, electron spin resonance, infrared absorption spectra and chemical durability. X-ray fluorescence was applied to estimate the actual chemical composition of municipal glass cullet. The thesis also comprises the ability of exchange soda ash with other local raw material namely phosphate abu-tartore. |
