Abstract
The main objectives of this study are :
1-To assess the variation amongst a few rice cultivars and available crosses for several drought tolerant characters.
2-The potentiality of heterosis expression of vegetative physiological, yield and its component traits and root characters.
3-The general and specific combining abilities and their interaction.
4-The type of gene action and nature of dominance and phenotypic correlation coefficients among studied characters.
5-The inbreeding depression, genetic variability, heritability and genetic gain from selection in F2 hybrid population.
