Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to study the effect of oral administration of fresh or dried unripe banana pulp obtained by either solar drying or under vaccum oven at two doses 1 gm and 2 gm / kg / 8 h as suspension for 15 days in rats with gastric ulcer by aspirin at dose 200 mg / kg. Moreover, feeding the fresh and dried unripe banana pulp at two concentration 7.5% and 15% to the diet for 30 days was conducted for another experimental animal groups with gastric ulcer. According to the results of the two previous experiments, the best concentration and drying method in the regard to different parameters like pH, total acidity of gastric fluid and ulcer index was chosen to apply in patient who has a history of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to evaluate the anti-ulcerogenic effect of unripe banana pulp in patients . The results are summarized as follow: Part I: chemical examination 1- Moisture content had the highest value in fresh unripe banana pulp, followed by total carbohydrates and ash content. Fat content had the lowest value and total energy content was 82.25 kcal / 100 gm. 2- There was a slight change in chemical composition in dried unripe banana pulp due to drying methods (solar drying or under vacuum oven). Total carbohydrates constituted the highest value, while fat content had the lowest value. 3- The highest value in mineral content was Mg in dried unripe banana pulp followed by Na, Ca, Mn and Fe. The lowest content was that of Cu and Zn. 4- Tannins, flavonoids, pectin and mucilage content in fresh unripe banana pulp were 1.74, 0.76 mg/100 gm, 0.5 and 6.34%, respectively. A slight change in these compounds was found between dried samples. Biological Examination: Part II: Effect of oral administration of different unripe banana pulp treatments on some parameters of gastric fluid in rats induced gastric ulcer by aspirin: Oral administration of fresh and dried unripe banana pulp obtained by either solar drying and under vaccum oven at two doses 3 or 6 mg / kg / day in rats resulted in a significant increase of pH value of gastric fluid compared to the positive control group . Oral administration of fresh and dried unripe banana pulp at two doses 3 or 6 mg/kg/day in ulcerated rats caused a significant decrease in volume, total acidity of gastric fluid and ulcer index compared to the positive control groups. 1- Curative ratios of ulceration in rats orally administrate red with fresh and dried unripe banana pulp obtained by either solar drying or under.
