Abstract
Aim of the work
To study the anatomical background, etiology, diagnosis and various trends of management of haemorrhoidal disease, stressing on the most recent ones.
Summary
A trial of conservative management should precede any therapeutic approach, as no procedure is 100% risk free.
Rubber band ligation can be applied to all degrees of hemorrhoids. Now there is no disadvantage in ligating two or three primary hemorrhoids at the same time (triple rubber band ligation).
Injection sclerotherapy gives excellent result, in first degree hemorrhoids and early second degree.
It is impossible to clearly define a place for the new trends (photocoagulation, bipolar diathermy, laser, cryosurgery) at present especially in view of long term data, but it is hoped that these methods will provide treatment that is effective and free of major side effects. The surgical treatment for hemorrhoids still has the supremacy as the method of choice in treating hemorrhoids.
