Abstract

The flow behavior through an asymmetric diffuser is investigated in the present study. A definite geometry is used for the tested diffuser performance are studied in the present study the flow is treated as two dimensional
A test rig is designed and manufactured to set up a detailed program of measuring the preassure and velocity distributions on the diffuser mid-span plane this is carried out using three and five hole probes the static pressure distribution on the walls is detected by means of pressure taps
The semi-ellitptic numerical technique developed by patanker and spalding is used to calculate the two dimensional flow paramenters the calculated results are compared with the measurements and a good agreement is obtained for fully devolped flow case
To get some information about the geometry effect on the diffuser performance the present experimental results were compared with the result of other research workers.from the present study it was found that the used level of the Reynolds number, the diffuser angle the aspect ratio and the connection between the straight wall and the inclined one downstream mainly determine the quality of the flow through the diffuser and accordingly the loss level.
