Abstract Solea impar is one of the most common and economic species of flat fishes in the Egyptian waters of the Mediterranean sea specially the area of study (Abu Qir Bay). The increased abundance of this species in Abu Qir Bay at sometimes of the year, besides to their scarce at other times, with the lack of knowledge about its spawning behaviour, represent the aim of this study. However, this study aimed to know the biological and physiological characteristics of S. impar at different seasons of maturation and its spawning duration. Moreover, the changes at the percentages of total protein content of ovaries and muscles of males and females at different seasons of maturation. As well as, the histological characteristics of the gonads, pituitary gland and liver of both sexes throughout the sexual cycle of the wild fish. |
