Abstract Greenhouse experiments were carried out , in plastic pots , to study the effect of salinity (gradual salinization and gradual leaching )on certain soil microflora , dehydrogenase activity as well as some chemical properties in non-rhizosphere and in rhizosphere soils of either barley or cotton . A mixture of sodium chioride and calcium chloride (1:1 on equivalent basis )was used as a source of salinity . For gradual salinization experiment , the soil was irrigated with water at E.C . 0.5 , 1.0 or 2.5 m.mhos /cm . in amount equivalent to 80 % of the field capacity . For gradual leaching experiment , three levels of salinity were used i ,e. 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0% salts mixture .The pots were irrigated with tap water in equivalent to 120% of the field capacity. |
