Abstract In this thesis the problem of characterizing diffuse liver diseases by processing the reflected ”RFA” signals is discussed. The slope of the acoustic absorption coefficient with frequency ”13” is used to perform the characterization . Two new techniques to estimate ~ are presented. namely the 11 STUSE 11 and the homomorphic techniques. These techniques are compared with the periodogram technique employed by Roman Kuc. The homomorphic technique offers a tremendous reduction in the variance of the estimation. The thesis is divided into seven chapters as follows Chapter I; contains a brief overview of the medical ultrasonic imaging techniques. with an emphasis on the imaging of soft tissues and the problems limiting the capability to diagnose soft tissue diseases by B-scan images. The objectives of the thesis are also presented. Chapter I I; presents the ultrasonic tissue characterization. the soft tissue diseases. brief anatomical and parameters used to characterize specially liver diffuse diseases. A pathological introduction to liver parameter used to characterize liver is presented. The diffuse diseases is |
