Abstract This study aims to assess the effectiveness of adding natural fibers termed juncus on the fresh and hardened state properties of concrete. Also an ttempt is made to study the possibility of using juncus fiber concrete in shell structures.A computer program has been developed for the analytical determination of displacements and stresses in such structures based on the general shell theory. Experimental results revealed good performance of juncus fiber concrete in all tests with respect to ductility.A distinct enchancement was achieved in reloading response of cubes. An improvement of relative toughness of about nineteen times that recordered to concrete.Mix.Also impact resistance of juncus fiber concrete is enchanced about 100% for first crack resistance and about 360%for ultimate impact resistance,When compared tothe control mix. Both shear strength and free shrinkage were improved. On the other hand ,a reduction in compressive strength of juncus concrete is observed due to the inclusion of juncus fiber.Up to 4% fiber content,Juncus fiber could be classified as structural concrete with respect to compressive strength not less than 176 kg/cm2. |
