Abstract

The overall prevalence of sheep infestation at Dakahlia
governorate was high (76.69%). But, the majority of infested animals
were of mild intensity of infestation (counts of 100-500 EPG
represents 75.25%, whereas counts of 2000-5000 EPG represents only
2.70%) with mild clinical signs which in the majority of cases ranged
from subclinical infection with sheep appearing relatively healthy to
mild clinical signs The infestation rate was high in lambs aged 3
months up to 1 year (84.62%) while that in sheep over 2 years (74.21
%) and (70.63%) in sheep aging 1-2 years. The infestation rate was
higher during autumn and winter (83.70%) and (80.00%) respectively
than those during spring and summer (74.45 and 68.89% respectively)
The over all prevalence of .Trichuris ovis 4.32 %, Strongyloides
papillosus 9.96%, Nematodirus spp 3.00 %,Trichostrongylus spp.48.5
%, Haemonchus contortus.37.22% and Ostertagia spp.28.76%
Studying the efficacy of some anthelmintics on the treatment of
gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep revealed that the mean value of
fecal egg counts were reduced 100% in the ih day post treatment with
albendazole, in the 3rd day post treatment with ivermectin and as early
as 2days only in moxidectin treated group The comparative
effectiveness for the three drugs was therefore, best for the
moxidectin.
