Abstract
The main problems encountered are that of developing a suitable carrier for cells, with organic matrices, the potential risks of infection and antigenic complication are a major obstacle, and furthermore, synthetic matrices have functional, mechanical and structural problems which limit their clinical usefulness. Various strategies have been proposed over the years for the regnration of urethral tissue. from these strategies, woven meshes of Dixon where are used to reconstruct urethras in dogs, Small Intestinal Submucosa (SIS) was used as an onlay patch graft for urethroplasty in rabbits and also a cellular collagen matrix has also proved to be a suitable graft for repair of urethral defects, both experimentally and clinically, more than 60 pediatric and adult patient with urethral disease, have been successfully treated with the collagen based matrix.
